The Murfreesboro Police Department was established in 1931. Currently, it employs 261 police officers, 33 dispatchers, 29 non-sworn support staff, 33 school patrol, and 6 part-time staff members. In 2017, patrol officers responded to approximately 102,969 calls for service, to include completing 16,062 reports, initiating 6,280 arrests, and issuing 10,003 citations. The department operates 24 hours a day with three patrol shifts along with several specialized enforcement units which cover the 61 square miles that encompass the city. While the Murfreesboro Police Department does have a mission statement, it does not currently have a vision statement. At the present time, the Murfreesboro Police Department’s mission statement is as follows: “The Murfreesboro Police Department is committed to the protection of life and the prevention of crime and disorder. With an emphasis on community policing, we will build partnerships and seek proactive approaches and innovative solutions to address crime and other safety issues in our community which adversely affect our daily lives.
