Museum of the City of New York is located in the East Harlem area of Manhattan at the top of the Museum Mile. This museum has multiple exhibits that describe the history and arts of New York. From my own experience, I learned a vast amount of information on the background of New York that made me notice how lucky I am to study in New York today. Throughout this famous museum, it is evident that New York is the capital of the world because of its strong economy, modernization, and diversity of people.
Once the five boroughs united, New York was starting to establish a better economy. Caribbean immigrant and lawyer Alexander Hamilton discovered the Bank of New York, the city’s first official bank. Being the first bank attracted numerous investors, which allowed the disbursement of loans that consequently produced revenue. They tore down old buildings, and composed modern buildings for the people of New York. These newly developed buildings were mostly corporate offices of radio stations, television, advertising, and magazines. The city ruled all these industries. Every industry settled in New York, dominating the world. Besides their growth in industries, New York modernized their transportation system with new highways, bridges, and ferries. This made New York easily accessible, bringing more people into the city. New York’s transition from aged to modern formed the city to be the capital of the world. According to the plaque, “Madison Avenue dominated American advertising, and Seventh Avenue had become the world’s fashion capital” (Capital of the World, Museum of the City of New York, January 27th).
