Ever since I was in high school, I knew I wanted a career which would allow me to keep learning about history for the rest of my life. Then, while in college obtaining my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, I knew to achieve that dream, I also needed to acquire a Master of Museum Studies. I was always the kid who couldn’t wait to visit archaeological museums when visiting new places and it only made sense to make a career out of it. I am applying to the Master of Museum Studies program at Arizona State University because I believe my passion for working in the field of museums will be achieved here as it is a place where I will be challenged and where I can further develop my skillset.
While studying anthropology at Ohio University, I was lucky to have the opportunity to further develop my interests with collections and museums. First, I started to work at the Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections at Alden Library. With this came the responsibility of organizing the Columbus and Hocking Coal and Iron Company Collection; this included taking inventory of the collection, systematically organizing it, and creating a newly organized database for the collection. I am excited to be involved with a program which strives to teach how important museums are in our ever changing and diversifying society. I am also highly interested in being involved with the Center for Archaeology and Society because I believe it will allow me the additional opportunity to gain hands on experience regarding the current concerns our culture is dealing with through the various themes chosen each year. I look forward to connecting my interests in anthropology to contemporary issues posed by the
