Wake Up Mr. West
Upon recognition, society decides who makes it in the music industry and who does not. Infamous artists do not simply make to the mainstream scene just from one event. Instead, they fight their way up with efforts; breaking records, creating mesmerizing beats, and in this instance developing the “chipmunk soul” sound. While, breaking social barriers and being oppressed by the music industry. The self-conscious, big ego, Grammy award winner, and fashion mogul; Kanye Omari West, became everything he had ever dreamed of. Moving from Chicago to China at age ten was a big impact on young Kanye because it meant a new culture, new language, and new life. Being a foreigner in a Chinese classroom, Mr. West would certainly know that he was the black sheep in the room, let alone the world. Donda West (Kanye’s mom) knew he was different ever since he was a child. She states, “He began to draw when he was three, and I bought him a huge box of Crayolas… even then his talents stood out. He drew things that kids who were twice his age couldn’t draw”. Although, being different does not necessarily mean bad, he manifested non-conformity into something rebellious, positive, and something that everyone could embrace. Embracing non-conformity means the separation of oneself from another person. Letting the unique side of someone shine and if people want to be great, we let their shine be a blessing. As we all know, humans cannot walk on this earth without criticism creeping up on you like a tiger looking for their prey. Not being considered a real “gangster rapper” from his fellow mentor Jay-Z and CEO of “Roc-A-Fella” record label Dame Dash, Mr. West did not take it too lightly, rather he was determined to become what he wanted to be. Mr. West became a victim in a near fatal accident when he had crashed his car and suffered a broken jaw. In an interview with one of Mr. West’s close friends, producer No I.D. states, “I remember when I first talked to him after the accident, and his mouth was all messed up, He (Kanye) was like, ‘I figured it out. … I’m going to rap about this accident.
