Music From The 1960’s to Now
“Finding old music you used to love is like getting back in touch with an old friend.” (“Unknown”) During the 1960’s rock music became very popular, along with bands like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones and artists like Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and more. Music from the 1960’s is still influential to artists and bands today, and some songs today are similar to songs in the 60’s. Although the music from the 1960’s to now, 2017, has greatly changed.

Soul music, folk music, heavy metal were also popular even though they are not types of rock music. “Garage rock emphasized crude or raw compositions with an unfinished and improvised sound rather than the polished sound of studio recordings. Bubblegum music focused on up-tempo, cheery songs.” (“McKeen”). Also, in the 1960’s many of the most popular bands originated in London and came to America, like The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and more. Although there was still many popular bands and artists that originated in America, like The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and the Byrds. “When the Beatles brought their act to the United States the next year, they caused a sensation.The Rolling Stones formed in London in 1962. The Who ranked with the Rolling Stones among the top British rock bands.Bob Dylan was a singer-songwriter who had emerged as part of a folk music boom in the United States during the early 1960’s.The American guitarist Jimi Hendrix was a strong influence on the heavy metal sound.” (“McKeen”). Although there are still many similarities, between the music then and the music now, there are also many differences. To begin, “Taylor Swift won four Country Music Association awards for the album, including entertainer of the year.” (“Brennan”) and, “The Beatles earned their first career GRAMMY Awards for 1964, winning Best Performance By A Vocal Group for A Hard Day's Night and Best New Artist.” (“Fancy Statue”). Both of these quotes show that like modern day popular artist Taylor Swift, the Beatles received awards too. This shows that back in the 1960’s musicians received awards from different categories and it was a big deal when you received these awards. Award shows like the Grammys occurred in the 1960’s and just like the 1960’s, they are still going on today. Artists and bands earning awards in the 1960’s on award shows is similar to musicians earning award shows today. Furthermore, video’s of a Demi Lovato concert and a Beach Boys concert show that there are many similarities and differences between concerts then and concerts now. Similar to concerts now, concerts in the 1960’s included loud music, people playing instruments, the crowd cheering, and the singers using a microphone so that their voice could be heard. Lthough after examining both of the concerts it was clear that today there are a lot more special effects that happen during the concert, and today there is almost always a group of backup dancers
