The director that I chose to analyze is Edgar Wright. Edgar wright uses music as a key component of his films. He uses music to help enhance the films story and scenes of action.
The three films that I chose to watch were Baby Driver, Shaun of the Dead, and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. In Baby driver, edgar wright uses music in multiple ways. The first is by enhancing the story. As you learn throughout the film, Baby was involved in a car crash when he was younger that left him with tinnitus. The constant ringing in his ears makes it hard for him to focus and complete daily tasks. Baby has found that listening to music drowns out the ringing and lets him focus. He also uses music to make himself feel closer to his mom. Baby’s mom who was a singer and died when he was a child. Listening to music helps bring back memories and helps him feel closer to her. Another way music is used in baby driver is to help enhance scenes of action. For example in the opening bank robbery scene music seems to be qued with different actions. Baby turns on the cars windshield wipers and they move to the rhythm of the song, and when the bank fire alarm goes off the main chorus …show more content…

Edgar didn't seem to use music to enhance the story but he did use it to enhance the scenes of action. An example of this can be seen in the bar fight scene. All the survivors are trapped in a bar and the character Nick Frost turns on a lottery machine and it makes a bunch of noise. The noise ended up attracting zombies to the bar and now the survivors are trapped inside. A zombie made it inside and now the survivors must kill it. Before they start fighting the song “Don't Stop Me Now” by Queen starts to play. The scene and song start out slow as the group grabs the pool sticks that they use to beat the zombie. As the song picks up so does the scene and they start beating the zombie. They also start beating the zombie to the beat of the song which I think ads a comedic
