Music Video Evaluation: The controlled assessment required us to research the artist of our choice and to represent the artist, using the conventions of music videos and genres. As a group we chose Drake to be our artist and we picked a song which also featured Rihanna since they are well known to the mass media due to their peculiar style and approach to music. Before the actual production of the video, I conducted and completed 12 pages of research on my artist; this helped me obtain a greater understanding of Drake’s work and his representation in the media. An example of this, in our music video, is at the beginning of the video in which the tune/beat is slow and creates a sense a being isolated and heartbroken, this is in which we see the actor, in an extreme close-up of the face, crying; instantly makes the audience realize that something heartbreaking has happened. Another example of this is when the female actor walks away from her lover when the lyrics states “look me in the eye”, this contradicts the lyrics and makes the audience feel a sense of loss. Andrew Goodwin also believed that the main artist should be the centre of attention by appearing the most in the video. An example of this would be the master shot of the actor in the park; this is seen the most in the whole video. In order to match the pace of the song and to create a sense of sadness, I slowed down the speed to some scenes, helping to create the mood. Furthermore, I used the effects “flash” and “bloom” to make scenes brighter, this helped put the focus the actor and make the mise en scene look more appealing. I put emphasises on the lyrics of the song not through the imagery but through the black and whites scenes which emphasize the heartbreak of the lovers. I used the transition “cross dissolve” in order to make shots fade into each other to show togetherness of the lovers who are yet
