For many years there has been a constant struggle with the coexistence of the Islamic and western societies. The struggle runs much deeper than their fundamental beliefs as separate societies; it has more to do with their inability to remain peaceful and respectful of their opposing views on their different ways of life. In Islamic societies sharia law is practiced, this law sets harsh and strict guidelines on the lives of Islamic citizens. These laws control every aspect of their life ranging from religion to legal statuses. Both the western society and Islamic society struggle with accepting the opposing society’s views on life. Sharia law is a set of harsh religious laws from the faith in Islam. These laws set major restrictions with very cruel and strict consequences that are considered unruly by most in Western society. In Western society the government is centered on the people and its fundamental purpose is to protect and uphold its citizens. If Sharia law was to be adopted by the western culture the government would not be considered for the people but rather would be considered the opposite because it would set very strict guidelines and parameters for the citizens and would limit their freedom. Things that are considered acceptable in Western society such as speaking personal opinions freely would no longer be deemed acceptable. Bin Laden stated “A fundamentalist cannot allow the ideas that he sees as his religious law to be subjected to scrutiny and debate” (275). The inability to ratify their religious laws in modern society would cause many problems in Western society which changes with time and since there is a democracy in western culture most ideals are questioned and
