Perceptions of Muslims in the Media
Muslims have been viewed in the media as a religion of extremist, and terrorists. Men and women of the muslim religion have been discriminated against in all kinds of media from news to books ever since 2001 where extremists flew two planes into the world trade center, as well as the recent beheadings of muslim extremists on the news. In media Muslims have been represented as murderous and unforgiving people, while in retrospect muslims are just a group of people in a religion.

Cartoons in certain aspects aren't usually involved with a marginalisation of a group, however when a group is marginalised within a cartoon, it can give a negative impact on the group. In this unnamed cartoon, it is showing a picture of what seems to be a muslim group or ‘family’ settling on english shores and pushing out what seems to be the original residents of england, out of the country. This shows readers the stereotype that muslims are moving into other people's countries and pushing the original inhabitants out. For example a tweet posted by a former American League Baseball, former video game developer and current ESPN baseball color analyst, Curt Schilling posted a picture stating that “It's said that 5-10% of muslims are extremists, In 1940 7% of Germans were nazis, How did that go?” What Curt is saying, is that even if only a small amount of Muslims are terrorists, they can still do a lot of damage, like the nazis. However this representation of muslims is completely untrue, due to terrorists being extremely different from Nazis, due to the small amount of terrorists and how unorganised the “army” is.
