Throughout history, many different people of color have experienced racial discrimination and have felt culturally separated from the rest of their peers. The passages "Mericans" by Sandra Cisneros and "Response to Executive Order 9066" by Sandra Cisneros both show first hand experience of racial discrimination and tell a story to the audience to show certain situations in which they had to experience. Both passages use literary devices, such as personal anecdotes, imagery and simple diction to help develop the common theme about cultural differences and racial discrimination. An important aspect of all writing is diction.
I’m Trying My Best We always say that we protect our loved ones from unfamiliar things or situations that may put them in danger, but is this true? . Are protecting our loved ones or ourselves?. The author May Chai Lee in the short story “Saving Sourdi”, it’s a first person perspective that talks about a young sister name Nea that wants to “save” Sourdi the older from a fix marriage that their mother has arrange with an older man. And how Nea deals with this events. This story is written with the immature and unreliable 12-year old perspective.
And this is a great example of symbolism. Mr.Twain represents Mr. Sherburn and the mob is the rest of the audience who is hateful and bigoted and also that deny the African American people to receive equal rights. And through Symbolism we see that Mr.Sherburn is right about the mob and their lack of courage. He explains how all of them are pitiful and how they are all cowards. And this is true for them and the people in real life who hunt, mistreat, and even kill African American people they are all cowards, they don’t have honor.
The settings of a family which has a negative effect on family and boys. Mainly what the characters are inclined to do against each other, the dysfunctional family life and the one parent family. The story has increased my knowledge about gangs and the impact on boys, that positivity of one person is better than the adversity of a gang. The author Scott Monk message to boys is being in a gang, especially a criminal gang is a futile, it is informative in regards that boys can do positive things in their life, that the need to turn their back on gangs and violence.
What kind of imagery comes to mind when the word savage its said aloud? What kind of connotation does you think drives this word? Primitive, barbarian, negligent?
