My A-Level Studies Personal Statement

During the years of my GCSE education, I developed a keen interest in the world of law and the legal system. Since then, I have made great effort to keep in tune with legal happenings, such as the killing of Mark Duggan, the London riots of 2011, and the ruling of ‘lawful killing’ made in 2016. This case, in particular, intrigued me and proved to be very thought-provoking. The theories and questions that events like these present to me is the driving force behind my desire to read Law.
The law is ever-changing, applied to many global affairs. I want to immerse myself in the critical analysis and application the law brings. My A-level studies have given me the opportunity to grow and develop theoretical and practical skills I believe will be …show more content…

This entailed, analysing current events with perspective and reason, discussing explanations for the actions of individuals; deciding whether it be due to societal or innate factors. With this, I can link social sciences with physical sciences in my biological studies. Biology involved having to develop, plan and carry out experiments under controlled conditions, collecting valid and accurate data, resulting in my ability to work under pressure and within time limits. My involvement with the Extend Project Qualification has also given me the ability to conduct independent research and improve my organisation skills.
In efforts to understand both the depth and breadth of Law, I have engaged in outside reading, acquainting myself with both UK & EU law, and possible career prospects. Lawyer 2B’s magazine and LawCareers.Net has given insight into the many career paths other than the traditional solicitor or barrister positions. Also, Lawyer2B’s website has informed me of Legal happenings in the news, such as the impact of ‘Brexit’ on the law society, the recent reports on the extent of homophobia at the bar, and the rise and fall of law firm’s trainee retention
