I have thoroughly enjoyed studying politics during my A levels and have come to the conclusion that I would like to pursue this subject further at university. Politics for me has been a relatively new interest which originates back to my studies of GCSE English. I remember being fascinated by Orwell’s political allegory of Soviet Russia and his perspective of Marxism in Animal Farm, which in turn led me to read 1984. I believe that it's important to understand how power shouldn't be vested in the government as it can negatively affect societies and the freedom of its citizens. As a result I am interested in contemporary examples of autocracy Over the course of my A levels I particularly enjoyed studying American Politics as it has broadened my understanding of American culture and the key wedge issues that divide society. I was recently stimulated by More’s Utopia written in the 16th century due to the extraordinarily futuristic concepts of socialism, such as the division of labour. These also concepts prevail in political idolises such as Marxism and therefore, has sparked an interest within me to study the origins of political ideologies common today. By studying this course I have acquired the skills of being able to equally explore and compare both sides of an argument which should enable to excel when studying politics in the future. I believe that my decision to leave the University of Nottingham and change course is a move in the right direction as I will finally be able to focus solely on studying politics whilst being closer to friends and family. Ultimately it has been a positive experience as I've learned valuable skills such as maintaining a strong work ethic during a busy university lifestyle.
