Other than being the main characters, John Marcher from The Beast in the Jungle and the Narrator from The Figure in the Carpet have something in common. Both John and the Narrator spent a lot of time thinking, wondering, and trying to find out some sort of secret- but the answers, there or not, are negative in both stories. The Narrator’s curiosity of the secret behind Mr. Vereker’s wonderful writing was slowly destroying his life, because he wasn’t getting any answers, and whether he knew or not, never would. John Marcher almost lets his fear of the ‘Beast’ in his future run his life because (In the end, the Narrator suffers from a loss of time and no answer to his painfully curious question, and John suffers from the waste of his life, and
As I end my sophomore year at Old Dominion University I think about all that I have accomplished in the past two years. I think about traveling to Peru and volunteering at an Hogar and Hospital as a Freshmen, Becoming Co-President of the Women’s ministry for ODU’s Catholic Campus Ministry, and to working hard and receiving good grades in all my classes. Not only do I think about all the work that I have done so far but I also think about my family and all the sacrifices they have made for me. I think about my parents waking up early every day to go to work just so we could have food on the table and a roof over our heads.
With their help I left John Edgar Howard elementary school with a strong head on my shoulders, and the devotion to strive for more. I had to move to a different elementary school because John Edgar Howard Elementary ended up being closed, because of the rough neighborhood. I then, attended Bradbury Heights; a school that I didn’t know existed. I was never exposed to many different neighborhoods, or opportunities. I managed to graduate and proceed to middle school where I continued my athletic career of basketball, and outstanding academic profile.
These are some of the accomplishments I have did over my high school years. I am Maya Salone. Starting off my high school years by staying on track, making sure I will achieve my goals set ahead. As of so far I have achieved four/fifths of the goal. With A’s and B’s on my record throughout the year can be quite challenging.
“The Lesson”: Talking about Democracy and Justice The core idea of the short story is about demonstrating the polar life of two races: the African-American community and the white “nobility” that revels in money while the former cannot afford to have a decent life. People from disenfranchised locales can have varying understandings of the situation that they are in. Tenably worse is resigning about the immutability this situation, however dismal or dejected it is. Even actually existing social inequalities can thus be seen as an evident reality if seen from a certain perspective.
One accomplishment I would like to accomplish this year is to start liking to read. Because if I like to read, then I can read and write my summary about what I read for reading class in school. And another reason why I want to start to like to read is because I could then take a quiz on the books and try to make it to the AR parties more often. I have more things that I would like to accomplish this year and some of them are getting my grades higher, making a lot more friends, and getting high achiever. This year, I am one of the A-B honor roll students, but I would like to get to be one of the “all A’s students for honor roll.
This year is important for me; now, I am a senior In Mercy College. I remember being a freshman and not understanding the idea of what life was outside high school. The transition was scary because I had to start over again; however, the experience was worthwhile. I am grateful for Mercy College for providing me with the scholarships that I needed to further my education. I hope to own my practice as a psychologist and I am here to thank my mother for supporting my decision.
My journey consisted of many good and bad times, and throughout the years I discovered my strengths and weaknesses. I made new friends, took on different tests, accomplished many things. My first year was my most difficult, being new to the school, but as the years went by, school became a more fun experience for me. Knowing that the 4 years of high school was a journey for me, I was able to brace myself for the difficult times to come and the rewards I was going to receive. At the end of the journey, I had gained a lot from these 4 years, but it also prepared me for my next journey, my journey through university.
By the time I graduate high school, I will already have my college associate degree that I will have earned through my hard work and dedication. Even though I went through a lot at such a young age, it has shaped me in every possible way. I was exposed to a whole different language and culture, but I was able to succeed through my strong desire of success and dedication. I am thankful for every challenge that I had to go through because if it was not for them, I would not be the person I am
By the time I entered middle school, I had greatly improved my English speaking, reading, and writing. I learned to embrace my accent, and take pride in my Hispanic heritage. I still can't believe how much I have grown as a person in the last 9 years. The struggles that I endured growing up, strengthened and prepared me for the future challenges I am yet to face. I will be a first-generation college student next fall, and I know that I will be successful because I have always been able to overcome the obstacles I face.
High school prepared me by being able to attend dual enrollment, which was one of the great thing my school had to offer to help advanced student academically. It helped me tremendously being able to associate myself with college level students and see things from their point of view. I also took an online class that was blackboard. I’m grateful for all the help and preparation I had before I
Just the thought of not knowing what I was supposed to do with the rest of my life made the last little bit of my senior year, very stressful. I then found out that not knowing and being undecided was perfectly okay and I was ready to begin my freshman year at Saint Petersburg College. Talking about graduating high school always seemed unrealistic because it was such a huge goal. After graduation, I had never felt so proud of myself.
High school has impacted my life in so many ways. High School taught me so many things, from personal relationships to creating a relationship with my education. As a freshman, I made a huge amount of mistakes and I regret doing foolish things, but I’ve realized, I was only maturing into the young adult I am today. Freshman year, I was out of focus and I was only trying to find myself. I would also prioritize other things and ignore my parent’s advice, where they would tell me to focus in school and give it my full attention.
The past four years of my life hold both my highest of highs and my lowest of lows. High school can be a very awkward time period in a person’s life. Four years ago, I made the intimidating switch from St. Mary’s School to Algoma High School. There were certain aspects of high school which made me nervous, but academics was not one of them. I learned how to be a responsible student in my earlier years, and school had always come relatively easy to me.
The high school that I was in gave me an interesting experience. I was able to learn and experience different lessons with in my high school. Three of those life lessons that I went through are when my school was placed on lockdown, another experience is a club that I joined which helped really mature. Finally the other experience I faced in high school was that some of my friends that I had wanted me to join them in some bad situations but I kept myself out of those situations.
