For my interview, the aging individual is a person I have known my whole life. Though she is not blood related, she is considered family, and an important person in my life. I chose her because I have seen her go through the aging process in a positive, and inspirational way. She has defied the norm that a woman needs a man in her life, yet she has lived her life without being in a single relationship. I have structured this interview to make it more like she is telling me her story. With this method, I tried my best to make this interview more meaningful to her while reflecting on her aging process. Her name is Norma C. Padua, a 75 year old, single, and retired woman. The first couple of questions was regarding her life in Canada, and pre-retirement age. Norma was born in Santa Rosa Laguna, Philippines, and moved to Canada when she was 25 years old. Norma has no children, no grandchildren, but one nephew. She lives in a house in Mississauga that’s near a park, river, and local grocery stores with her younger sister Fely. She has lived in this house since she came to Canada—45 years ago. When she came to Canada, she had graduated from FEATI University with an engineering degree. However Norma said that she did not use this degree at all, but rather she went back to college to obtain a finance degree instead. Norma’s ways of coping with aging has evidently shown to be a success story. For example, she has noted that she had no surgeries or any medical complications. But more importantly she has showed me how to cope with a reality that you won’t be in this world forever. A reality that can be dealt with by appreciating the world through engaging in everything it has to
