Good communication skills play a crucial part in everyday life, whether it is work or personal. Communication is key to maintaining good relationships with co-workers or a spouse or partner. It is extremely important that as the communicator, the message communicated, is easy to understand by the receiver. On the communication skills quiz, my score was a 57, excellent. In my career, it is extremely important to have good communication skills. As a Disability Benefits Specialist, I communicate with different people every day. On a daily basis, I work with Insured’s, Clinical Consultants, Doctors, Vocational Specialist, as well as my peers. I need to alter and personalize the way I deliver a message to each person I communicate. Each insured’s claim is different, and I, as the communicator need to make sure I have a good understanding of their claim and their situation to be able to relay to the insured the information we need as well as make sure they understand why we need certain information or why we have made a certain decision. …show more content…

As a communicator, one needs to be conscious of listening and body language. If communicating in person, face to face, one can read body language to see how the message is translated. In my career, I am mostly communicating with people over the phone, so I pay attention to tone of voice, and listen to questions asked by the receiver. I found the best way to make sure a message is delivered correctly is to ask the receiver to relay the information back. If a message is not understood clearly over the phone, sending out a letter is another way for the Insured to receive the message I am trying to communicate. By giving the Insured a chance to read the message being communicated, this gives the Insured a change to call back with further questions. If the message one tries to communicate is not communicated in a clear and precise way, the message could be
