I am interested in attending the Marist Criminal Justice summer program because I want to learn more about the many careers in the criminal justice field. A criminal justice-related career is typically displayed on television on shows like “Bones” and “NCIS.” These shows probably do not accurately portray what a job in the criminal justice field is really like because they are meant for entertainment. I’m hoping to learn more about the realistic side of criminal justice in the Marist program. What interests me the most in this field is Forensic Science, the process of solving the crime and how forensic scientists and all of the other law enforcement agencies work together.
Specifically, I want to practice family law, and help families try to stay together, even in the worst kinds of situations. I hope to influence legislation to give children more rights in the court system because I believe that they do not have enough. Finally, I hope to come back to the Independence Youth Court and serve as a mentor for volunteers just like me who need guidance in their college and career planning. I hope to continue my work with the Independence Youth Court long after I pass the Bar
Before furthering my education here at San Jose State University, I wasn’t sure what my interest and career path I wanted. Although I did always want to go into the law enforcement field, I was never sure exactly what I wanted to include myself in that field. As I began my career here at SJSU I developed an interest in the criminal justice system, more specifically in the field of law. I followed my interest and join clubs such as the Pre-Law Society club here at SJSU. Through this club I got the opportunity to meet and sit in panels on law students including Alan Adkisson.
The thing I want to do when I complete college is to be a parole officer. A parole officer job supervise criminal offenders who have been released from prison. They monitor parolees, help them find suitable living arrangements and meet with assigned parolees regularly. To be able to compete in this career field I have to earn a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, psychology, or social work. After completing 4 years of college I will have to complete a series classes that cover correctional strategies, forensics, legal research, criminal psychology and offender rehabilitation.
My career goal is to become a lawyer in the Juvenile Court System, my goal is to be able to help children in anyway I can. I feel that children are always misunderstood and that all they need is a little bit of guidance to be able help them. Another one of my goals is to take care of foster children, I want to be help take care of them. I have a lot of aspirations, it helps that I have a very big heart and an outgoing spirit. Introduction This paper is to define and understand who I am as a student and what direction I need to take to complete my degree and pursue a successful career in life. I was born in St. Ann, Jamaica to hardworking parents and I was raised in the catholic church. I grew up thinking about becoming a cosmetologist but as I become older my direction shifted to law. Unlike many of the other professionals, my passion as I migrated to the states was law because it is a great security aspect and my desire to be in the court room is always something I love, and would love to help people who are unable to secure a lawyer. I do believe with my desire and determination I can make a difference in this world: I can see myself running a law firm in years to come, once I work hard and put in the work.
My goal with my college degree is to graduate with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and eventually transition into law school within the state of Georgia. After law school, I plan to become a juvenile and immigration attorney in hopes of one day becoming a positive influence and defender for those without a voice. However, as a first generation college student, financially speaking attending college has not been easy. Surviving college would have been impossible without the support of my mother.

THESIS Researchers have examined the difference of the drinking and drug use among college students whose majors are Criminal Justice compared to other majors. The study shows that Criminal Justice majors should be more cautious when it comes to drinking and the use of drugs, because it could affect their employment in the Criminal Justice field. It could affect their employment because Criminal Justice officials are known and responsible for enforcing the laws and regulations for drinking and drugs as well. Also, with being in the Criminal Justice field they do a background check for drugs and alcohol. With being compared to other majors such as nursing, they are known for helping cure wounds and giving treatments.
I would like to obtain a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice so that I can become a Corrections Counselor.
