As high school students, we are sheltered from the real world. We sometimes forget that one day we’ll graduate and won’t have our teachers and counselors trying to guide us. Thinking outside of that bubble, I wonder what’s going to be of me after I graduate as I sometimes wonder what can I do in order to ensure that I become successful? Everyone has one answer to that question - get an education. A good education will be valuable anywhere, and that is why I am attending the University of Houston this fall. Being described as “the most diverse in nation”, I was motivated to spend my university years at this prestigious institution. Growing up I’ve seen my parents settle for any job they could find due to not having an education, all in order to be able to provide for my siblings and I. Watching them go through this for us, so we could get the education they weren’t able to sparked my interest for a degree. I grew up in an education system that says we are the future leaders that will change the world, yet our advancement is halted by where we reside and the amount of money that we have. We stay home to avoid the extra costs associated with moving away and upon graduating we realize that there aren’t jobs in our field or the one spot there was has already been reserved for someone else.
