Many people do not have the good fortune to have an education, and to have a continuation of learning is a blessing. I am majoring in Psychology with the hopes of one day becoming the best psychiatrist. I started attending college at Richard J. Daley as of spring 2014, and I must say it was quite different than my high school experience. College has made me more independent, but my first semester was quite difficult. I am now currently in my second year of college, and I am paying out of pocket.
This is because I question if I could have done a better job of compartmentalizing my personal struggles with family matters and mental health. This is something I have struggled with, but I am proud of the performance I put forth, because I know that even staying in college seemed to difficult at times. After two and a half years of college I ended up in a Communications Law class and fell in love with the concept of attending law school. My journey consisted of many good and bad times, and throughout the years I discovered my strengths and weaknesses. I made new friends, took on different tests, accomplished many things. My first year was my most difficult, being new to the school, but as the years went by, school became a more fun experience for me. Knowing that the 4 years of high school was a journey for me, I was able to brace myself for the difficult times to come and the rewards I was going to receive. At the end of the journey, I had gained a lot from these 4 years, but it also prepared me for my next journey, my journey through university.
Being halfway through my first semester of college it seems like graduation is so far away, but it is actually closer than anyone thinks. From the second you enter college everyone asks you what you want to do with your degree after you graduate. Trying to figure out what to do after college is always a difficult decision, whether it be to head out into the work force or continue on with our education. As of right now I am stuck on both ideas. I believe I would be happy going out into the workforce and starting my chemistry degree in a lab doing research, but I also think it would be fun to continue my education and go higher with my degree.
First and foremost, my goal by applying to college is to gain the necessary skills- and, of course, the degree(s,) to start a career that I love. At the end of high school, I thought that I wanted to be a Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. But with little funds for college, and high school grades that were only slightly above average, I was in a poor position to fulfill that ambition. Instead, I enlisted in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, with the goal of gaining an inside look at the medical world, while simultaneously taking college classes during my spare time to demonstrate a renewed resolve to prosper and achieve in academic settings, as well as qualifying for the GI Bill to finance going back to school.
A experience in my life that I feel I will influence my work and goals at Colorado Christian University is my prior college experience. I feel as though at this time in my life I would like to solely focus on my academics. From working in the workforce and seeing how much a college degree helps when it come to job openings, experience and education. I feel as though it has made me more determine to finish my degree to advance my career. Sometimes I image the quality of a job and position I would obtain just based on my prior work experience combine with my degree and it just pushes me every time to work harder.
Graduating from college was an unrealistic goal for everyone in my family. School days felt endless and homework seemed impossible to complete. Nonetheless, I always felt a strong sense of confidence. I was certain that one day I would accomplish a memorable goal. I wasn’t sure what it would be, or where I would find my motivation.
While I was taking classes to become an engineer, I was also employed full-time as an automotive technician. I worked my way to becoming a top level technician in the automotive field, learned all I could in class, and started a family. I am proud of what I accomplished, and I know it was the right thing for the people who count on me the most. I truly believe that by working hard and becoming highly knowledgeable in a skilled trade, doing my best to raise a family, and constantly researching engineering and physics out of my own curiosity, I have become as prepared to succeed at the University of New Hampshire as possible. I do know that my performance in class was affected in the process.
High school has helped me figure out what I am going to do after I graduate,or at least I think it has. With that I have taken a lot of classes here at northview and some of them have been easy and others not so. But the classes that are right in the middle have helped me figure out a plan. My freshman year I took some engineering classes and thought that this is the coolest thing ever.
Career Autobiography There are many things that I feel have led me to year number two of graduate school pursuing a career as a school counselor. For I while I tried to convince myself that a career in school counseling was not for me and ultimately everything led me here. My mother has been a school counselor for the last 25 years and I grew up watching her do something she loved. I went to school everyday and watched my mother make a positive impact on many of my classmates and this left a very lasting impression on me.
I was immersed in a disappointment, and feelings of helplessness throughout the freshman year. Fortunately, the second degree option rekindled my extinct passion. Without hesitation, I chose Business Administration as my second major, which was the only option offered by Economic and Management College. Accounting Principles was the first subject that enabled me to gain insights into Accounting, the deeper I got myself involved in this subject, the more I found it fascinating. Also, I have taken inspiration from my internship experience.
