For my Day of the Dead essay, I did my project on my grandfather on my dad’s side. His full name is Anthony Ha Van Tran . I called him grandpa or ông nội, in Vietnamese which means “grandpa, or grandfather.” His birthdate was on August 8th, in the year of 1918. The day he died was on August 5th, 2006 . He was about eighty-eight years old when he passed away. I was almost 2 years old when he passed away. I do not remember anything about him because I was so young when he died. He is important to me because he is my grandpa and he loved me very much. My grandpa is very special because he is part of my family and always will be.

Many important things happened in my grandpa’s life. When he was a child, all three of his siblings passed away from diseases. Then when he was about 19 to 20 years old, he was married to my grandmother. He was married for sixty eight years and always was a devoted husband and father. His family was poor, some years they hardly had enough food to eat. However, he was able to manage and sent all seven of his children to school to complete college. He was very religious, honest, strict, and faithful. My grandpa was a very handy man. He was a farmer because he and the rest of his family were farmers. Many families in Vietnam were farmers because they were extremely poor. My grandpa was also a carpenter, construction worker, and also worked as many other laboring jobs. He could design the outline of a house and build one! He was not only built his own house, but he helped to build the houses for the people in need and widowers in his town. My grandpa passed on the skills and techniques to my dad, and he is very handy as well as his father. All in all, my grandpa was a caring man and was always willing to help
