The first two weeks I have learned a lot of knowledge about American history. There have three chapters we should read during the first two weeks. Many history stories in those three chapters actually were the old knowledge that I already know before. But some of stories had quite different with my old memories. I think this phenomenon happened because the technology of science that using for find historical remains have development and the discovery of the new history literature or art may change the old history factors. Author was focusing on the England’s history which was related with America. The religious problem in England was serious in that time. Some of the Puritan thought their faith was different with the situation in England, also they were being persecuted by empire so they went to America starting their new life. They are part of the earliest settlers from European to America during the English exploration of America. Also when England empire established colonies in America, it’s wasn’t an easy thing to creating a stable and valuable colony. The different opinion from leaders was causing the English civil war in America. The English civil wars were a civil wars fought in England that set king Charles I and his supporters against supporters of the English parliament. The influences of this war of America were in many aspects. For example, as a royal colony, Virginia should support the king in the war. But the leader in Virginia considered that commerce was more important so he was choice to being neutrality. In 1649, Charles I was executed. After this, parliament established a republican government which name is commonwealth, this government replaced the monarchy. In 1660, Charles II was restored to the throne. This war affected Virginia trade. Because this war had stymied the shipping. Also the relationship between native peoples and English settlers was being mentioned by author. This chapter was talking about the society and economy in colonies, race-basing slavery, the enlightenment in America, also the reaction against the enlightenment: the great awakening. Although colonies had political autonomy, they still be the part of the English imperial system. The colonies were the reward of the winner of conflicts between empires. Take our eyes to midcentury, colonies already had a quarter million blacks. The increasing number of blacks was due to the demand of labor was increase. And the supply of slaves may be imported from Africa or from other colonies. So a lot of slaves were blacks. In addition, the economy of middle colonies was depending on farming.
