The best ways for immigrants to adjust to living in the united states are to be yourself and try to fit in sometimes. This is interesting to be because in the story “my favorite chaperone” is about how Maya faced alot of challenges in her life even though she was only in junior high.
My thesis is that to be an american you have to be different but also show people your culture and that makes you different . But in the story “late homecomer” it doesnt show the same thing it tells us about a girl that doesn’t fit in and doesnt’ have any friends but she doesnt have to come home to cook.

Next is how people have to conqure there biggest fears to just feel normal just like anyone else . Some important detail to know is that Yang in the short story the “late homecomer” is that when she first moved to america she didn’t fit in at all , and her family started off very poor in america . also in the “late homecomer” and “my favorite chaperone” they both faced the fact they were in high school about to take adult responbilites at a young age.But soon Yang and Maya finally get to fit in in america and in jr.high. Lastly these short stories focuse more on Yang and Maya’s culture and the background. …show more content…

Like how Maya always had to take of her little brother . Or even how she had to come home and cook dinner even though she was in junior high. Even though Maya was learning at a young age she was still taking responbilities as an adult when she was in juniour high . But in the short story the “late homecomer” Yang didnt take that much responsbilities as Maya did but she did have responsbilities too. Also that Yang had to help her mom and father get some money for there new house , and she cleaned and help cook dinner
