How do you allow God to take control of your life and entrust that everything will be okay? This was the type of question author Anne Lamott (2006) baffled with in these next few chapters. Lamott (2006) shares her personal life story of entrusting God in her book Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith. This paper will provide a summary of chapters two thru four, combined with a personal reflection, and conclude with a few desired questions that ideally could be answered by Lamott.

Living in Conditions that Ultimately Made Them Stronger John Quincy Adams once stated, “patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.” In the world today, obstacles have an impact on the way one goes about their respective life. These obstacles range from emotions to illness to social class. How one interprets those obstacles decides whether that life goes down as a success or failure. As a society, we often admire those who take their obstacles and use them to create a better life.
The article “Power walking: next time you go for a walk, invite a heavenly Friend to join you,” by Gwen Scott Simmons sets the scenery of his positive outcomes from going on walks. Along with his personal discoveries about himself, he regularly speaks of the value of having God beside him during that walk. Finding the ideal setting: bright in the morning, the author mentions, “Praise flowed effortlessly into confiding in Him about my problems, needs, and sins. After being cleansed daily by my forgiving Creator, I found myself pleading with Him on behalf of others” (Scott Simmons). Even though it is a therapeutic coping mechanism, everyday walking also leads people to God and the sacrifices he’s done.
I have one ongoing question to God that’s origin began many years ago. In my first few years of life, I was struck by four life-changing losses of people who meant a great deal to my family. First, it was my dad and my grandmother, which had the hardest impact. Due to the loss of my dad, I have a very different life than most children, I never will experience father-daughter events, such as walking me down the aisle, and also I lost a rolemodel of men. My grandmother would do anything for me and my happiness, through this loss my best friend was taken away from me.
As Screwtape advises his nephew, "When they meant to pray for courage, let them really be trying to feel brave. When they say they are praying for forgiveness, let them try to feel forgiven. Teach them to estimate the value of each prayer by its success in producing the desired feeling, and never let them suspect how much success or failure of that kind depends on whether they are well or ill, fresh or tired, at the moment" (Lewis, 16). The emotional rush that occurs when drawing near to the Holy Spirit is a feeling almost every Christian has experienced. New believers tend to use this feeling as their sole motivation for prayer, study, and worship.
Barriers throughout someone’s lifetime could shatter them, or help them to build and become a better person. Either way, it is a decision one makes on their own. Some people’s hardships are worse than others, but that does not mean it was not tough for them to handle. Conflicts could even help shape the person going through a tough time. The main character in the narrative had ceased to find meaning in his work. He undertook a spiritual journey consisting of successes and failures over a long period of time, leading him to find meaning in his work. As a child we watch our parents and we learn from them. We learn how to cook, how to clean, how to raise children, how to do right from wrong, how to work, how to do things we don't want to, how to be happy, how to have fun, and many more things.
When difficulty occurs, I am more likely to form the judgment on myself. Always ask me a host of questions of “why”. The latest example of my life challenge is when my father last entered the hospital, he suffered a lot of the unbearable pain and I could not do anything for him. I could only stay with him near the bedside. Every night, I could barely sleep.
It’s no secret that everyone is created as imperfect human beings because ultimately, that is the cause of our messy lives. Since we are flawed human beings, were more susceptible to stray away from God and his plan for each and every one of us. As a result, we desperately need God’s love and mercy to steer us back on the path he has already paved for us. We all let emotions take the best of us weather that’s anger, frustration, or even regrets, but the key is to trust in God and let him take take full control of your life because you will uncover the greatest gift of his divine eternal grace. Coming into contact with challenges and struggles can seem awful and unwanted at first. But as we get around those struggles and challenges we can look back and be grateful we went through them. Sometimes we can face something so scary it feels as though we will never get through that stage but when we do that person will be so much stronger because they had to go face to face with what scared them. Challenges are bumps in an individual 's road to success, some may appear bigger than others but perseverance can and will help a person to get over those bumps. The more challenges someone gets past helps them get closer to their goals in life.
Who am I, where am I going, and how do I plan to get there? That is a really good question. To begin with, I am the only child of Martha Ramirez and Rosario Ramirez. I come from a family where not a lot have finished school, but are grateful for what they do have. Throughout my life I have learned to be grateful for everything that I have, to be someone in life, and to follow your heart no matter the situation.
