I reaped the rewards of this as much as possible in middle school as I made many new friends by participating in sports and ASB. I remember as my eighth grade year came to a conclusion about how excited I was to continue playing sports and as a result, make new friends throughout my upcoming four years of high school. This all came to a drastic halt when my parents no longer allowed me to participate in football due to the increased physical competition and subsequent unsafe nature of the high school game, and when I was cut from the freshman basketball team. For the first time in my life, I had found myself unable to participate in the activities that had my brought me happiness and academic motivation. For a while, I lost all motivation to participate in my school and as a result, I didn’t participate in any extracurriculars and lost my perfectionist goal of achieving a 4.0 my freshman year.
Even through all of the trials and tribulations of trying to make it through high school, I still decided to continue my education. I have pushed on and tried my very best to go on with schooling with what I was taught and what I have had to teach myself. Throughout high school I had to work on my school work around my parents schedule due to the fact that they work shift work and I have to watch my two younger siblings. Not much has changed in that aspect of life, I still have to work around my parents schedule and watch my little siblings while working a full time job. Something that has helped me to get through both high school and this first semester of college is that I do my very best to figure out how to do assignments on my own and was always willing to ask for help when I couldn't grasp how to do something on
I have been constantly dealing with struggles, from which I have learned. One of my biggest struggles, from which I have learned and am still learning, was the transition from middle school to high school. While this is a common struggle for almost all students, that doesn’t mean we should overlook it or write it off in our own lives. When I first began high school, I was filled with adrenaline, which fueled me and kept me on my toes enough to keep up with the workload. This "honeymoon phase" came to an end, and I started falling behind.
In my first three years of high school, I have had many struggles that have taken me on a different track than what I expected. My freshman year I had received four concussions. Some of these were sports related while others just happening by accident. These accidents left me missing tons of school and made me fall behind. Classes were hard to keep up with mentally as well as emotionally.
According to a Navy Seal quote” The only easy day was yesterday”. I first witness the quote while I was reading a book about Navy Seals in the eight-grade and I enjoyed it. I liked the citation since life is an everyday struggle and each day is more difficult than the previous day. I felt the true connotation of the citation at the end of freshman year. The end of my freshman year and sophomore year felt like the Navy Seal’s Hell Week, but my Hell’s Week was more
Focus 2 Assignment – Reflection Upon completing the Focus 2 career assessment program, I am quite impressed at the quality of information it presents. It allowed me to not only look at careers that would fit my personality, but also those that take into consideration the fields I am already interested in. Also, as with any form of self-assessment, there were strengths and weaknesses that I did not expect based on how I feel I live my life currently. Beginning chronologically, the program had me complete two subjective, current measures of my professional career.
Career Exploration Paper There a lot of things I want in life and good career where I can help people is one of them. I feel as if the following jobs will allow me many opportunities to help many people in various settings. The first job I was interested in is being a dog trainer.
Although most small businesses have a website these days, they usually do not have the budget for hiring an IT specialist to manage their website, update content and remove obsolete / out-of-stock products. Thanks to the WordPress platform, it is no longer necessary to have an IT background in order to administrate your own website and keep it up to date. If you know how to use Microsoft Word, and how to upload a photo on the social media, then you have all the skillsneeded to manage your own website. Ease of use is just one of the reasons why WordPress is the top choice as a web platform for businesses.
During high school, the biggest obstacle I faced was the extent of the classes and resources offered to me, or lack thereof. Growing up in a rural town with a small high school meant I missed out on many opportunities students in urban areas were offered. For example, I did not have the option to take classes to prepare for going to University, or training involving my major interest of political science. There were no Advanced Placement (AP) or Honors courses offered in some of the common subjects like World History or Civics/Economics. While I was disappointed that I did not get important opportunities like AP, I understood that this was a trade off of living in a small, supportive community, and I accepted this fact.
As middle school began, hard working and social life had shaped a hefty problem for me. Middle school brought forth harder work, and attending a different school expunged almost all of my previous friends. I began to work much harder as a student, because I felt that it was important to receive superb grades. However, this affected my life with friends in later years.
As Senior year continues it is time to get serious and start thinking about the future. Up until freshman year I didn’t know what I wanted to do as my future career. All I knew was that I wanted to go into a career that I enjoyed going to work every day not something that I am going to dread for the rest of my life. I thought about criminal justice, being a nurse, and even being a lawyer; however, freshman year I finally found my career calling. I joined the Agricultural Education Program and realized that I want to go into Animal Science.
High school has impacted my life in so many ways. High School taught me so many things, from personal relationships to creating a relationship with my education. As a freshman, I made a huge amount of mistakes and I regret doing foolish things, but I’ve realized, I was only maturing into the young adult I am today. Freshman year, I was out of focus and I was only trying to find myself. I would also prioritize other things and ignore my parent’s advice, where they would tell me to focus in school and give it my full attention.
However, the school offered very few practical subjects, which might have been more suitable for many students. The paradigm that was formed in the above mentioned scenario is that I and other young people were told that the only way success can be reached is through excellent acceleration in academic and sport performance. Why does everyone think that we can only reach success if our academics and sport is of a high standard? I always felt that a person could also be successful as an artists and by making things with your hands. High school made me feel that I had to fit in a box of academics and sports and that nothing else of who I was as a person deep inside, was ever explored.
I didn 't care about my early years of high school; My grades were poor and my mind was too focused on trying to forget the struggles of life. After sophomore year of high school, I began to think and acknowledge all of the issues I’ve experienced throughout my life. I thought to myself that I could never achieve true happiness if I continued to run away and hide from the reality of
The past four years of my life hold both my highest of highs and my lowest of lows. High school can be a very awkward time period in a person’s life. Four years ago, I made the intimidating switch from St. Mary’s School to Algoma High School. There were certain aspects of high school which made me nervous, but academics was not one of them. I learned how to be a responsible student in my earlier years, and school had always come relatively easy to me.
