My Impact On PK-12 Learning In The Classroom

INTRODUCTION
This semester has been filled with all sorts of lessons not just in the classroom, but more importantly about who I am and who I will be as an educator. Every experience I endured this semester had a purpose. I’ve outlined my experiences involving my impact on PK-12, collaboration, personal reflection, and future plans.
Impact on PK-12 Learning
The project overall has helped me become a better educator because I have learned to think critically when looking at the results of my small group students. I used the tests KPAT, Yopp-Singer, and Running Record. The results helped me frame what lessons I would be teaching over the 6 weeks. Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs requires the teacher cover the physiological, safety, belongingness and love, and esteem needs before the student can perform to their potential (McLeod). This was crucial to not only my small group students, but with Ms. Bryant, my mentor teacher. I started developing that relationship with her right at the beginning. In doing so, it allowed me to talk about my small group students to determine what has worked best in the past for her or what their current home situation was. This helped me establish empathy toward my students. I have learned to communicate with Dr. Burrow. I would also see if I give my students the QPS assessment because according to my post-assessment results on Yopp-Singer all three of my students made higher than a 70%. This can allow for me to see what their new area of needs are. I would also want to ingrate cross curriculum because if the books I was choosing was based off of social studies, science, or math I could help improve those scores too. For these students’ new teacher, I say to be persistent and push their limits. I introduced CVCe words to them because they showed me they were ready and they had moved up in a reading
