My Interview With Amy Rhodd On Personal Finances

On May 15th 2018, I interviewed my aunt Amy Rhodd on her personal finances. I choose to interview my aunt because she has always been considered the smartest in our family with money. Also, she has already started to help me with my finances. When I moved in with her last year and got my first non-seasonal job she showed me the importance of saving a little amount from each paycheck. She helped me get a credit card in order to build credit, she found out that someone tried to use my name as an adolescent for a mediacom bill and fought it since I was not 18 and capable of having a medicom bill. She also helped me get a car loan for my car. My aunt does use credit cards for minor purchases like gas and little items at stores. She has her credit …show more content…

When she got her first full time job and started establishing her own credit she allowed others to use her name on their bills (for example phone bills) and when they did not pay the bills it was her that received the short end of the stick when her credit score dropped. She wished she would have started as early as possible to start building credit because it would have been easier to get a better car at a lower interest rate and it would have saved her a lot of money. Until recently my aunt always tried to help others with their finances even when it would severely damage her own and she told me that helping people with small things such as gas or an extra birthday present for a niece or nephew when their parent couldn’t afford one was/ is not a big deal as long as all of your bills are paid and you have a sizeable fund saved up in case of emergency. However, helping someone buy a car or paying their rent isn’t something she would advise me to do unless I win the lottery. She always stresses that paying your bills on time is very important because it is a good habit to have and it builds your
