In Richard Turere’s TED Talk “My Invention That Made Peace with Lions,” the viewer learns about an invention that the speaker created which helps Kenyans protect their livestock from lions. To begin, Turere commences explaining that his community in beliefs that they were born to raise livestock and take very good care of the animals. However, the problem of the story is quick to follow. Lions are predators pose a threat to the herd of animals that Richard Turere’s people tend to. The teen brainstormed many ideas to solve his dilemma, but he kept coming to a conclusion that there was a flaw in his plan. However, this did lead to Richard Turere’s understanding that lions would not come close to the livestock if they believed a human was walking around. Therefore, Turere spent the next couple of months taking apart his mother’s radio to learn about electronics. This led to him creating something that would automatically illuminate and create an illusion that someone is walking around at night, with just a flick of a switch. With a proud look on his face, Richard Turere revealed that his invention succeeded and that several people are now using it too, all over Kenya. In the midst of all the joy of the success of his creation, Richard Turere explains that in an attempt to solve one problem, he solved two; the livestock and lions are both safe from harm's way now because neither of them will have to interact.
