Experience of Developing My Literacy on My Second Language Honestly, I was not a good reader or writer as my first language when I was in my junior high school in China, so after I came to United States for my high school education, literacy became one of the most difficult challenge for me. Since I studied in my high school, I realized that literacy is a significant learning tool. My English literacy impeded me to learn because I was bad at English additionally. With good fortune, I met My English teacher whose name is Mr. McDonald developed my literacy by teaching different kinds of writing and reading, and a novel, “A Long Way Gone”, that he chose for me to read was really motivated me to pay more attention on my literacy. Beyond his unforgettable name, Mr. McDonald is a humorous, responsible, and expert teacher. McDonald improved my English when my English was like a six-years-old child, and he reduced my tension and gave me confidence to read and write. At the first year in United States, my English at that time was absolutely horrible, so definitely, to completely understand the classes was mostly impossible during that period. My horrible English led to that I felt extremely nervous when someone was trying to talk to me. Fortunately, Mr. McDonald was my first English teacher in my high school, and he came to me and tried to give me some help, so he started to teach the lessons again in a easiest way when he was free. He utilized body languages and many funny expressions to explain something that I could not understand instead of using dictionary. With fun and relaxation, his humor decreased my tension mad made me to learn faster.
