In “My mother’s coat” my Tai George and Mothers love yours sons by Glenn Colquhoun, a main character was influenced by another for a particular purpose. The poem “My mother’s coat” is about how a daughter is being influenced by her mother and her culture. Whereas” Mothers love your sons” is about a doctors warning to mothers about the importance of loving their sons so they don’t waste their lives. This essay will discuss each pome and how mother influence their children and communicate the message of love and identity.

Mothers help their child from their identity and guide them through their life. For example in “My mother’s coat, Tia George writes” And not long ago I tried it on after many years although it’s not really me it’s because of her I can sew my own” this quote comes towards the end of the poem in stanza 5. This quote come towards the end of the poem as the daughter is now an adult. After the so many years the daughter is now finding out who she is, and is embracing it because of her mother. Glenn Coloquhoun suggest in the quote” when they will always be the last to know. The last, that is, except for you” that the son is the only one who knows his identity and that he is trying to show everyone around him, but it says.” The last, that is, except for your” this is saying that the mother knows who her son is and his identity, as she has been with him when he was trying to find out who he is himself. We see this towards the end of the poem as the son is now older and is beginning to find his identity.
