Spanish for Everyone After a week’s vacation from class, I delivered my persuasive speech for our Public Speaking Class. I was feeling a little under-prepared, after I saw that I would being delivering the first speech of the class. However, the speech went pretty well with many positives, but it did not go without negatives that I need to improve on. First, I will start with the positives of my speech. One big accomplishment for me was eye contact. I felt like I kept sustained eye contact throughout my speech, which is a huge accomplishment, since eye contact has been a weakness of mine in the past speeches. Also, one aspect that I changed for this speech, is that I actually utilized my notecard for guidance. In the past, I never looked at my notecard because I simply used as something to hold on to. Overall, I simply need to get my nerves in check. My voice is still a little shaky and not natural, while my body movements are still being over-done; I am constantly moving my hands or fidgeting with my fingers. One way to help get my nerves in check, is to simply breathe and take more pauses in my speech. Right now, I tend just to speak faster, when I should really be slowing down in order to gain my composure. To help my over-active hands, in my next speech I will start with both hands firmly holding the notecard, so that way my hands will not being flying around, when they are not needed. The last area of improvement that I need to work on is the utilization of my visual aids. I had used a few of the diagrams and pictures, but not all of them. By using all my visual aids, I could have gotten my message across clearer. A way that I could improve this in the future is to put signals on my notecard, so I know when I should change slides to go along with my speech. If I focus on these improvements, I will be able to develop and improve my speeches
