Unit 1, served to introduce the multiple roles of an Early Childhood teacher and the ability to function effectively in these capacities; in order to meet the holistic needs of children in the field. Emphasis was placed also, on various factors that affect the early childhood practice and there importance, as it relates to the overall responsibility for child development. As we delved further into the topics surrounding this unit, valuable group and class discussions were sparked and meaningful content extracted. Such content sought to highlight the importance of early childhood teachers in creating an integrated teaching and learning environment to assist students with making connections and finding meaning through educational processes.
Both class discussions and chapter 5 in the book “Education the Practice and Profession of Teaching” has allowed me to gain knowledge of historical and current trends in policies and practices that affect early childhood and childhood educators because in the reading the authors speak in depth about social reform with in education, they tell about how policies were created and how they influence our education now for example in the text there is mention of attendance laws that protected children by educating them and keeping them from working. When going into the field of an Early Childhood Educator there are different values that one should have. In my opinion Early Childhood Educators should have foundation skills of how children learn, should know how to support diverse knowledge, should be able to model the correct language, should have classroom management skills, and should be able to create a safe environment for all children. According to the NAEYC core values Early Childhood Educators should base work on knowledge of how children develop and learn, which goes with my first opinion with Early Childhood educators having the foundation skills of how children learn. 1.1. Why should early childhood development teachers not use food in art activities, such as painting and collage? Because children are still in the process of learning to distinguish between food and other objects that are not to be eaten it can result in causing confusion in the young learner so therefore it best not to use food items for eating as art materials. Also art work such as paintings and collages that makes use of food can most definitely not be displayed and kept for long periods of time as it can attract insects and go off or moldy. This could have a negative effect on the child if his art work no longer looks as beautiful as it did when he created it.

To meet this standard, I addressed the different ways my learners grow and develop by addressing social and emotional development by planning an in-depth unit challenging my students’ understanding of cells. The Brain-Targeted Unit plan provides an overview of some of the techniques I used to support my students’ learning styles. Throughout the unit, I addressed six brain targets, one of which included positive emotional climate while teaching for mastery, skills, concepts, and content. I arranged the room into various workstations to account for the various learning skills that were present in the classroom. Students participated in the diverse set of activities to demonstrate their mastery of particular objectives.

My educational philosophy has been in development for 15 years. It is a product of my own experiences in school, as well as my opinions on what skills should be taught, and to what extent different components of the child should be developed. The academic, social, emotional, and cognitive development of the children can be heavily influenced in PreK and kindergarten classrooms. It is dependent on the teacher to conduct their classroom in a manner that successfully facilitates the development of each child’s faculties. As a future teacher, it is critical that I enter the classroom with a clear philosophy in regards to how I believe education should be conducted.
My personal philosophy about children and learning is that children learn best when modeling. Modeling is a great strategy to demonstrate to children how to behave effectively in any situation. It gives them a good perspective to consider about the situation when they are in that situation. For example, when a teacher demonstrates how to solve a math problem, she is modeling to the students how to solve the problem correctly. I believe children learn best by hands-on learning environment.
The important reason to makes a good and professional early childhood educator is to communicate with children and try to understand them. I did not have any working experience in kindergarten, but I have some experience of taking care of a child due to my mother is a babysitter. The child that my mother takes care is a boy and he’s autism. He is a child that sometimes like lives in his own world and sometimes he is also hyperactive. He likes to sing, dance and write.
Quality in the Early Years is based on the respected educational goals and practice of the cultural communities making up a society. A definition of quality in the early years differs by the perspectives of each of the settings stakeholders (Huntsman, 2008). It comprises of a range of things that change between and depends entirely on the needs of each individual.
