My Shadowing Experience

I received a new experience as a pharmacy student by shadowing in the health care field. The feeling was great since I had been in the shadowing in two different hospitals for the first time. It was a chance to grow my insight through learning new operations. I can gauge this experience as particularly valuable for my future improvement and vocation; I consider that the conference got in the general involvement of shadowing furnished me with the reasonable thought in regards to the parts of polished skill that I have to work with.
For the first shadowing experience, I shadowed in the Maternity hospital in Kuwait. they provide many services for the women and newborn babies. the hospital includes many departments, for example, birth center, breastfeeding …show more content…

For example, I saw how the health care providers should be dealing with patients. for example, when I was in Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Hospital the patient missed his appointment because he came late. the patient was angry and asked the nurse to saw the doctor. the nurse tried to make him calm down and explain to him how the system work. at the end, the patient was not completely satisfied, but he knew it was his fault. Also, I observed cultural competency in the Maternity hospital, a patient was in the examination room and a male doctor came, but refused the examination and asked for a female doctor. And the male doctor was very friendly with her and understood her opinion. That remind me when I was a pregnant. I went to a hospital in Boston. They did not ask me if I prefer a male or female doctor. So when I went to my appointment, I saw the physician was male. I felt shy to ask for a female physician, so I decided to cancel my appointment and went to another hospital. But after my experience, I saw that it is easy to ask for a female or male physician. And the physicians accept it as a patient’s rights because they want the patients to feel more …show more content…

I observed the health care system. in the Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Hospital, after the doctors done the tour for the patients who are in hospitals, they meet with the pharmacist and the nurses whom are responsible for the cases and discuss the results and the developments of the cases. that shows me the importance of the hospital pharmacist job. Also, I observed in the Maternity hospital before the woman was discharged, the pharmacist came to her room with the needed medication and explain to her how to take it, the side effects use for and other important information regards the medicine. the pharmacist allows the patient to ask many questions regard her case and medication, and the pharmacist gave the patient some ideas and advice to remember taking the medicine.

In conclusion, the shadowing experience, and what I learned in the class demonstrate to me how I ought to be in the future. This experience opens my eyes about little points of interest can change and help the patients ' health. I will communicate with patients in a friendly way and try to make them feeling relax and comfortable. I will listen to them, asking them, and explain everything they should know about
