I’ve watched and played soccer all my life, playing and growing up in Europe has definitely helped me the get a better understanding of soccer in general and of the different styles of each and every country. But most of my soccer philosophy is based on the concept of the Dutch’s Total Voetbal.

A style that is about movement and attacking as a team not as an individual. Soccer in the end is a team sport after all and not a one man show. Even the individual brilliance of the best players in the world is not possible without the help of their teammates. My soccer philosophy is based on a quote by Johan Cruijff - “soccer is a simple game, but it is hard to play simple soccer”.

Simple soccer for me is the team’s ability to move the ball up and down the field as a unit. This requires speed, discipline and a high soccer IQ from every player (you have to be able to read the game in order to play it). Soccer is a mind game; a calculation and elimination of always changing conditions and variables in order to find that one little space, the one pass the one move to beat your opponent. Creativity as well as the understanding about collective capability are key factors in the players development.

Player development
As a coach it is your job to understand every players individual level and how to put that individuality into a working unit. Players should be developed according to their age and physical capabilities.
