In her poem, “My Walk to School,” Andrea Wilson showcases the struggles that individuals who are bullied face everyday at school. Specifically, she reveals the roller coaster of emotions that a experiences during an event of ridicule. Through this, she proclaims that victims of bullying do not get to have a voice in most cases during their state of loneliness causing their struggle of fighting to continue on longer. Wilson depicts this prolonged state of loneliness through her utilization of rhyme to represent the non stop bullying many face, her slow pace to showcase constant ridicule, and her utilization of ellipsis to reveal how many who endure bullying are not always safe.
Wilson uses words that rhyme to showcase how victims endure bullying repeatedly, and how bullying is an ongoing issue. She utilizes specific words to showcase the violence that many students who experience bullying endure: “Fist punch. / Foot crunch. / Hand hit / Mouth spit” (Wilson 1-4).
