Teachers are everything. People in all stages of life one time or another have been taken under the wing of a teacher. Every single person in this world has had someone teaching them whether it be educational, moral or survival. Nothing is achieved without someone being taught by another. People have learned since the beginning of life; children are taught at a very young age into their young adult years, from educational studies to life skills by dedicated and passionate teachers. There are positive and negatives to teacher being paid more, consequently, teachers need to be paid more due to their higher educational status, long work hours, and teaching experience.
Teachers work longer hours of the day compared to other professions. Six or seven hours is the conventional workday for teachers, but unlike in other professions, the expectation for teachers requires them to work at home, at night, and on weekends: intruding into their personal and family life. In the article "Myths and Facts about Educator Pay” by the National Education Association, the article discloses that teachers have to work on average 10 hours more a week after the dismissal bell sounds:They are grading, creating schedules, and lessons. Teachers spend an average of 50 hours per week on instructional duties, including an average of 12 hours each week on non-payed school activities such as: after school tutoring, bus duty, and club advising/club meetings (NEA par. 11-12). In schools a Bachelor's degree is the only degree required to teach at a high school level. A bachelor's degree in education ranges from $25,000 at state universities to $100,000 or more at private universities.A master's degree program in education costs ranges anywhere from $12,000-$74,000. Teachers should be paid more not only from the extreme amount of debt they can put themselves into to achieve a higher degree, but they also use their own money to provide some classroom objects, educational games, and movies. In conclusion, teachers should be paid a higher salary because the teacher occupation is one of the hardest working and most time consuming jobs. Without teachers nothing would be learned or taught, so teachers need be given a little recognition with extra pay. Happy teachers results in properly taught students and knowledgeable future
