Being selected to be a candidate for membership in the Kenwood chapter of National Honor Society is a great honor for me. It means that I have achieved my goal of demonstrating my determination to be a part of something that appreciates and values students with exceptional qualities. I believe that I am able to become a valuable member of the NHS because I am hard working, reliable and I possess all the qualities required by this prestigious organization, such as scholarship, leadership, character, and service abilities. This was not easy. It took countless hours of studying and tutoring. I missed lunch so many days to go to the library and work with the University of Chicago tutors to ensure I got the grades I knew I was capable of achieving. I'm not only academically determined but I am also working at my long term career goal of becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner. Along with my determination, I am very passionate. For some reason, I have always been someone with a strong passion for babies and children. Their unbiased and pure thoughts, genuineness and unconditional love are all traits that I both admire and aspire to attain. Just as they can learn from us, we can learn from them. My goal is to be a neonatal NP, and I am determined to achieve it, but my dream is to positively impact the lives of as many kids as I can in my lifetime, all the while bettering myself everyday by learning from each of them. I have been volunteering a Shoesmith Elementary as a youth mentor for a year now. I love spending time with kids of all ages and getting to know what them. When I think about my strengths, academics are definitely on the list, but they don’t compare to the irrevocable passion I have for children. I believe my determination to exceed and my passion are an accurate reflection of my character and strengths and they also connect to why I would be an excellent addition to NHS.
