Napoleon Bonaparte was one of the most renowned leaders the world has ever known,

from his adolescent studies in Paris, to his military conquest of the Austrians, all that he did was

with a tenacity that would pave a way for him to rise from being a fatherless child in Corsica to

become the distinguished Emperor of the French. Throughout Napoleon’s busy life, he always

found time to handle every matter, ranging from matters of the court, to buying gifts for Empress

Joséphine (Walter). Napoleon was perhaps the most meticulous man alive.

Corsica, France, never did this small island ever think she would witness the birth of

someone as grand as Napoleon Bonaparte. In Napoleon’s youth, he adored Corsica, he cherished

The young Napoleon was a remarkable student.

He excelled at the military schools in Paris. On more than one occasion, Napoleon and the other

students would stage battles in the snow, and not so coincidentally Napoleon would lead both the

attacking and the defending “armies” (Abbot 26-27). Even in his youth, Napoleon’s leadership

skills were far superior to those around him.

In 1796, Napoleon was put in charge of the French forces located in Italy, a position in

which he had desired for quite some time (Biography.com). Auguste de Marmont said of

Napoleon, “From his arrival his attitude was that of a man born for power. It was plain to the

least clairvoyant eyes that he knew how to compel obedience, and scarcely was he in authority

before the line of a celebrated poet might have been applied to him” (Tarbell). Shortly after

Napoleon’s improvements of the army he quickly marched to war against the Austrians.

Napoleon’s first battle on the Italian peninsula was a successful one. Napoleon had spread

rumours to make it seem as though he were to march on Genoa, the General spearheading the

Austrian army, Beaulieu, bought these rumours and sent his lines towards that
