(Introductory paragraph) Despite being born into a poor family in Corsica, Napoleon Bonaparte became one of the greatest leaders and military minds in history. At a young age, his father got him into military school, and from there Napoleon’s military and political career started. Once he became the most known military leader in France, he became the emperor of France soon after. Napoleon then used his military, politics, and marriage to consolidate his power over France.
(Military) First, Napoleon consolidated his power over France through his military. Considered one of the world’s greatest military leaders, Napoleon’s strong military and leadership skills helped him conquer different territories and countries. Once he conquered a territory or country, he would use his military to maintain power of the area and grow his French empire. After gaining the trust of the French people through his military and leadership skills, Napoleon ran a populous political campaign which helped him gain political power in France. Napoleon wanted to secure his position as the sole leader of France and he did so by declaring himself emperor in 1804. As emperor, Napoleon promised a ‘clean government’ and made promises to give the citizens of France what they wanted, thus consolidating his power, but neither of these happened. He also used local governments to help consolidate his power over France. He appointed public officials, mayors, whose jobs were to control local governments, and gave them responsibility over tasks such as controlling public opinion and collecting taxes, which allowed Napoleon to be able to monitor and control all regions of his empire more efficiently, thus consolidating his power over
