Camping Trip Wilderness Style When thinking of time management and handling a situation differently, it brought back memories of one of the first camping trips my husband and I took with our daughter and two of our friends. It was for my birthday on a Saturday one weekend in May. There were quite a few hiccups with the trip, and my husband and I learned some valuable time management strategies to ensure that our next trip was more successful. I will describe the trip, and some different actions could have been taken for an especially successful trip. So, one week it was decided that since my birthday was coming up, we would invite two friends to a quaint little spot we’d discovered and spend some time camping and fishing. After a short phone call it was decided to do a real short, laid-back weekend at the lake with just us and our daughter. My husband and I were to bring the food and cook breakfast the morning after our arrival. They said that sounded fine and they would meet us there. Being able to have had more time to relax and enjoy the company of our friends would have assisted in making lasting memories that were more positive and less hilarious only in hindsight. Making a list, planning backwards, being organized, and delegating effectively would have helped us to not spend so much time fixing the problems encountered. For example, I could have used the advice from the book “The 25 Best Time Management Tools & Techniques” and followed number 1 on page 3 to create a list of needed items to ensure we didn’t forget anything (Dodd, P. and Sundheim, D. 2011). This would have helped us to apprehend we were missing several items. If I had realized that we didn’t have the stakes and rain flap, it would have been a much drier experience, and we wouldn’t have had to go home and dry out our tent, clothes, and sleeping
