Things started to change when I moved to the United States. I still remember it as if it was yesterday. I was eleven years old. It was August 12, 1992. This was the first time I had left my family, had boarded a plane, had traveled a great distance, and had saw a skyscraper, then two, then hundreds of them. I was in Chicago! I could not believe it, I was in shock. The sky looked so beautiful. It was a bright sunny day, the sky was a soft shade of blue and there was a slight breeze in the air. I never seen a sunset like that before in my entire life, a city that breathtaking, full of bright lights and buildings. Megan was the very first friend I made when I moved to the United States. She was the typical American girl with blond hair, blue eyes, slim figure and fair complexion. She is the type of girl who is not afraid to speak up in front of boys. On the other hand, I have black hair, hazel eyes, shapely figure and dark complexion. I was very shy to make friends and was the outcast of the group. I was always feeling like I did not fit in at all. I didn’t have a lot of friends in school because most of the time people saw me different. My Italian accent distinguished me from the rest of the classmates. One of the things Megan and I enjoyed was dance class. We both had a deep passion for dancing. My mom signed me up for ballet class in the community center. She encouraged me to participate in dance competitions. I can say that dancing build my confidence and it helped me to developed into a genuinely friendly person.
