It’s not often that I get to travel without my parents. After all, I’m still a teenager and completely supported by the. As for my trip, it was supported by my parents, but they weren’t there. It was sweet, sweet freedom – for five days. I was travelling with around thirty classmates to the Model United Nations Conference at the University of Chicago, a prestigious conference that I was both looking forwards to and dreading deeply. Once we were there, and once we got onto the Chicago “L”, my stress melted away as I admired the towering buildings and the bustling city passing by my window. However, there were two big things on my mind (other than the stressful conference). The Bean and pizza. They aren’t both foods if that’s what you’re thinking. If you didn’t know this about Chicago, they have a really big bean just there in the middle of a plaza. There’s no way to describe it without seeming bizarre – it’s just a huge 42-foot tall polished stainless steel bean. Looking at the bean, looking at the distorted but beautiful skyline, and looking at my own reflection made me appreciate life, art, design, and so much more. The first bite into the cheesy wonder was...surprisingly bland. It was just a pizza, but with copious amount of cheese. It wasn’t at all what I’d expected and I was disappointed, but I wouldn’t let that dampen my spirits about being surrounded with really awesome people in a really awesome city.
