Everyone has freedom but how much depends on age. At sixteen you can get your license and drive yourself places which helps make that freedom more realistic. The key necessity to adulthood is freedom. Growing up going on road trips to see family upstate, I have always been excited to drive. Just knowing where driving can take people is amazing. I have been driving power wheels and four wheelers since I was seven. Basically I have always been aware of how to make things stop and go and how to steer. Now I am not saying driving an actual car is anything close to driving a power wheel on a sidewalk, but it is pretty cool how kids get to experience it. It was a cold Tuesday morning in Sugar Land, Texas. Leaving the house with a frosted window shield, my dad and I were on the way to the DPS. With a long wait ahead, I knew I would be late to school but it was worth it. Finally, one of the test administrators came out to the waiting area and told me to pull my car around back. I did what she said and I had to wait about another thirty minutes. I was driving my grandma’s car, which does not have automatic lights. With the weather all cool, I kept the car’s heat on but turned the engine off. After the thirty minutes passed, I turned the key and guess what…the lights used too much of the battery and the car would not start. Every time I turned the key the engine clicked. My face turned red as a tomato. I opened my door as told the supervisor. She ran and found an officer to jump my car. I was so embarrassed! We finally got the car up and running! When the test administrator arrived, we headed to the parallel parking part of the course. It was surprisingly a very short course. We got back to the DPS and I passed! Getting my license was a wonderful accomplishment that I feel makes me an adult in the eyes of my community. I drive every often now and sometimes it is even the best part of my day. Driving is so therapeutic to me. Also, being able to go where ever whenever I want (with the permission from my parents) is pretty awesome. My parents also see me as a responsible young
