Frederick Douglass was born in 1818 in Talbot County, Maryland. He became one of the most famous intellectuals of his time. At an early age, Frederick realized there was a connection between literacy and freedom. Not allowed to attend school, he taught himself to read and write in the streets. He was a house servant the same people who he served for gave him lessons. Fredrick was an anti-slavery, he escaped to Great Britain to avoid capture.
