CREATIVE WRITING. STATEMENT OF INTENT. This is a short story about an up and coming rugby league star. It was a hot and muggy Saturday afternoon, and I was minutes away from running out on to the field, playing in front of my whole school and my family. It was at this moment that I realized I was about to play the most important game in my life. I’d been playing good footy this whole season, earning top try scorer throughout the competition, and being named most valuable player. When running out onto the field, I knew my dad would be watching from the stands, as he was my biggest fan. He had come to every single game to date, since I started playing. I could also see the scouts, which had come to watch me play. This was my chance to finally make my dream of playing rugby league come true. I could feel the nerves in my stomach as I was waiting on the half way line. Finally, the whistle blew signaling the start of the match. I was making mistakes I wouldn’t normally make. They put up a high ball, and I was staring right into the sun, I couldn’t see anything, and before I knew it, the ball bounced off my chest and into the oppositions arms, allowing them to score right under the posts, making this the first try of the game.
