French Honors Society Application 2015 Huyen Nguyen For the past seven years I have been studying the french language and I believe my years of dedication to learning the language will be put to use in the French Honors Society. Last year, there was not a massive amount of activity happening within the society, however, I believe that with the right planning, french can be further incorporated in everyday lives. Many people within our community have experienced some form of the french culture, but have not experienced everything french has to offer.
Being selected to be a candidate for membership in the Kenwood chapter of National Honor Society is a great honor for me. It means that I have achieved my goal of demonstrating my determination to be a part of something that appreciates and values students with exceptional qualities. Over the years I have begun to realize that one of my best qualities is my determination.
It is a great honor to be nominated as a member of the National Honor Society. There are many reasons why I want to take part in NHS. If I get into NHS, it will give me a lot of opportunities to be a leader.
It is an honor to be nominated for the National Honor Society. The fact that I was nominated proves to me that all of my hard work and dedication has not been for nothing. The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students who strive to achieve their best not only in school but in themselves and the community. I believe that I’m one of those students. Based upon my last two year at Matawan Regional I now have a 3.9 GPA and am ranked in the top 20% of my graduating class.
The National Honor Society, NHS, was officially started by the National Association of Secondary School Principals in 1921. It started in a Pittsburg high school, but quickly grew throughout the nation. NHS has maintained a long history of admitting exemplary students into the organization. NHS developed four main tenants that have helped guide the purpose, as Zeiger (n.d.) explained: "to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools". I have chosen to do the National Honors Society, because it helped me throughout my junior and senior years in high school.
Every week I spend time at the Morristown Medical Center as a volunteer, where I am able to help keep things functioning in the hospital at the highest speed possible and hopefully brighten a few patients’ days. Also, I’ve enjoyed helping refereeing youth basketball games for the past two seasons and being able to talk with the kids. It is a great opportunity to give back to a program which gave me so much in the five years I played in it when I was younger. Furthermore, I am excited for even more opportunities to have an impact on my community which being a part of National Honor Society would aid in.

I have participated in many service opportunities and leadership positions, and while those both demonstrate what my participation in NHS would be if I am accepted, but I am also honest, responsible, kind, respectful, and helpful. The main reason I am applying for NHS is so that I can help others by serving my community, and I can achieve this by using my gifts and character. One of my most inspiring service opportunities that I have participated in was at Cardinal Ritter Senior Services during my freshman year.

I also love that I grow as my knowledge grows.
I knew this opportunity would definitely be a great step for me. At school I received a letter from NHS and I believed I got in. A few minutes later, there was an announcement to recognize those students who admitted into our first NHS. I waited. Names were called up, one being my older brother, and I waited to receive my recognition, but announcements were over.
Throughout my whole experience at Centennial, I have always wanted to join the National Junior Honor’s Society, so I feel very honored to have this opportunity to apply. Last semester, I was part of our school’s Student Council. Being in that group allowed me to see how important leadership is in our daily lives, in and outside of school. I also learned a whole lot about service, considering we had to complete one hour every week. All of these things are important, but the thing that I thought spoke to me personally was this year’s theme.
