Over the years, there have been a gradual increase in the power of Government programs which has led to the rise of groups who feel something needs to be done to curb the government’s power whiles pushing their own agendas. According to Nash (2013), “Interest Groups are organizations of people with shared ideas and attitudes who attempt to influence public policy”. These interest groups have become very profound in shaping government decisions. Interest groups are made up of a variety of professionals including professional associations, public interest groups, ideological groups, public sector groups, labor groups and business agricultural groups. “The ABA has sought to promote professional standards among lawyers and to improve the administration of justice.” According to ABA website (www.aba.org), the purpose of this group is to improve the quality of their profession, eliminate bias, enhance diversity, and also advance the rule of law. Apart from aiming to provide quality of life to its members, the ABA helps the growth of its members’ professions by providing service and benefit programs. The ABA has commissions on homelessness and poverty, sexual orientation and Gender identity, and women in profession. The later of these commissions, “aims to promote equal representation in the legal profession by persons of differing sexual orientations and gender identities.” The American Bar association have great influences on the nomination of judges.
