“I will uncover your love for physics” Ms. Anderson exclaimed as she addressed the room of sophomore students. And she did. The year started off when she assigned us a Rube Goldberg Project, and I found myself spending countless hours than any other project I have done before. And I did. Through Ms.Anderson, I uncovered my innate love for physics and satiated my newfound passion for engineering by enrolling in a multitude of science and mathematics courses available. My appetite for discovery led me to participate in multiple science-related clubs, and become a devoted President of the National Science Honors Society. I was fascinated by the Co-op program at the College of Engineering because I can receive a well-rounded education in both the classroom and the workforce. By alternating between the classroom and workforce, I am able to test theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom in the industry. Moreover, it prepares me for the world in which changes are growing rapidly, and challenges are becoming more complex. Furthermore, Cornell’s numerous student organizations will provide another way for me to pursue my passion. For example, I am interested in joining Cornell’s ACM Programming, where I’m given a limited amount of time to create efficient and effective solutions to a program. Through this organization, I look forward to participating in several competitions such as Google Code Jam and ACM IPC, where I can test my knowledge gained from a classroom and apply it to society. I am also especially excited for the Engineering Communications Program, which will advance my ability for learning how to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Enrolling in the writing-intensive courses within ECP will also enable me to improve communication skills with real-life situations.
