Key Terms Aztecs - The Aztecs were around the time period 1325 and found modern day Mexico city.They believed in the many gods and believed that the sun fought the moon to save mankind. When Hernan Cortes came, the aztecs thought it was their god Quetzalcoatl. Montezuma, the god upon men, turned himself over to Cortes. Cortes and his men killed Montezuma and the Aztecs realized that he was not their god. Cortes went to get more people for war and when he returned no one was there. The Aztecs were killed off by small pox. Cahokia - One of the largest cities around 1250. They had access to major river systems. It was a modern city, just not up to our level. - In 1347, the Europeans had run into a disease called the black death. It had killed 33% of the European population, but they eventually brought it back up. Columbus thought he had found a quick way to the east by sailing west. Everyone he told his idea to turned him down, but Queen Isabella gave him three ships for his journey. When Columbus finds the New World he writes a letter to Isabella that soon everyone would read and make them want to come for many different reasons. After the contact of the Native Americans with the Europeans, everything changed. The Native Americans would come into contact with many Europeans and see new crops and animals that would help them survive. When the Europeans came over they think they can convert the Native Americans to Christians which involves more people coming over. Sugar Cane was on the European ships and they found it to grow very well in the Bahamas , were they landed. They soon learned how to turn it into other things such as molasses and rum, making them very rich. The Europeans offered a grant of land to people who would come over and made the Natives living there work as slaves. Horses also came over with the Europeans. At first it gave the Europeans an advantage, but eventually the Natives learned how to use them to their
