The long walk of the Navajo’s was the forced relocation of the Navajo nation in 1863 to 64. The reason for the forced relocation was to the deterioration of U.S. Native relations in the west as well as the continuing expansion into the west. More than 200 Navajos died in the march from exposure, starvation, and disease. The march was led by U.S. Army Cpt. Kit Carson, the local commander in New Mexico and hero of The Battle of Glorieda Pass.
The Navajo Code Talkers are seen as one of the most essential aspects of WWII for their unbreakable code and easy communication skills with each other. The Code Talkers were a special group of 29 Navajo soldiers who were fluent in English and Navajo languages and also physically fit. They were sent to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot for seven weeks of training, after which they started to develop the code they would use. The language that they created was a alphabet language which consisted of words chosen from nature. They created 411 terms using this language.

For example in the “Navajo Origin Myth”, the gods created man and woman from corn, which symbolized life. Because of this, the people who believed this story rubbed themselves with cornmeal. Then they try and tell others about the ghost, or they try to find out where it came from.
In this essay I will be talking about the one of the most famous states in the American U.S. country, Oklahoma. Oklahoma is known for being one of the religious states in the country. Oklahoma wasn't in the Confederates or the Unions side. They were actually on the Indian Territory. The Five Tribes had problems with the federal government in the history so they chose to be with the confederacy cause.

The Navajo and the Modoc: Mythological comparison In the myths “When Grizzlies Walked Upright” and “The Navajo Origin Legend”, we get a glimpse of the beliefs of traditional Native American societies. The former myth is one told by the Modoc tribe of Oregon, the other is told by the Navajo tribe of the American Southwest. The different uses of animals, spirits, and women’s roles help create an illustration of society before colonization. These myths do also differ on these themes and on how they are presented.
