Well the artist Ne-Yo does just that, he captures your soul through vocals, lyric placement, and beautiful melodies. Alike many other industry filled musicians, Ne-Yo’s education came to a stop after he graduated high school. According to Dave Elfman, Las Vegas Review Journal, “Ne-Yo went to Las Vegas Academy from the ninth through the eleventh grades and then he graduated from Ranche High School” (Dave Elfman). Even though Ne-Yo did not further his education, he did further his knowledge in songwriting. One would think that many artist study music privately, but that was quite the opposite for Ne-Yo’s upbringing. Since his education did not surpass high school, his course of study was on a general based system. He took the classes that are required to graduate and he was not given the resources to study under anyone. However, he did get to learn about aspects of successful songwriting by joining an R&B group called Envy. This group was signed by Columbia Records. Being a part of this particular group allowed for Ne-Yo to plunge into his musical influences. Due to fact that he already had a gift for writing songs, his influences where that of: Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, R.Kelly, Babyface, Black Street, El DeBarge, Teddy Riley, Kashif, and Jodeci. In the beginning of his career Ne-Yo collaborated with other artist on the basis of songwriting. It started with Marques Houston on the song “That Girl” (Ne-Yo Biography); this particular song got him the name of “being one of the most-sought songwriters” (Ne-Yo Biography). Due to this name his songwriting collaborations grew to artist like Faith Evans, B2K, Christina Millian, and the induction of Mario’s career through the single “Let Me Love You” (Ne-Yo Biography). As Ne-Yo became more established, he began to do vocal collaborations with other artist. For example, in 2005 Ne-Yo’s first vocal collaboration was with Peedi Crakk. They released Ne-Yo’s first début single “Stay” (Ne-Yo Biography). After his début single Ne-Yo did other collaborations that put him on the “Top Ten of the Country’s Hot R&B/ Hip Hop Billboard charts” (Ne-Yo: Billboard). These collaborations included: Rihanna’s “Take a Bow” (Ne-Yo: Billboard) and Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” (Ne-Yo:Billboard). These particular songs were for the R&B side, however the hip hop side included him providing his vocals to his label-mate.
