Its evils exist only in its abuses.” Andrew Jackson will become the 7th president of the United States after losing his first election to John Quincy Adams, the son of the second president John Adams. At a young age he was part of the military as he joined the revolutionary war at the age of 8, then after 7 years he was then captured by the British and they figured out that he was a messenger for the United States. So at age 15 he would be in jail by the british. Andrew Jackson is a democrat which means he treats the people equally. The first reason why Andrew Jackson is democratic is he allowed the people to elect presidential electors. It made a lot of states change their way of voting from legislature to the people. This first started in 1816, most of the data shows that most of the states were voting with legislature. After 20 more years it has changed a lot, and now it is the people who are voting for the presidential electors. Andrew Jackson was first elected in 1829 and served for 2 terms which means 8 years and this means his presidential term would end in 1837. This was the time most of the states were allowing the people to vote. This is supported by Document A, The graph shows which states allowed the people or the legislature to vote for presidential electors. The reason why this explains why he is democratic is that he is allowing the people to have equal rights to vote instead of only legislatures. The next reason why Andrew Jackson is democratic he wanted to make all social classes equal. According to document F it states “It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes.” This quote from Andrew Jackson is talking about how Jackson doesn’t want the rich and powerful to rule the government when he says “regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes.” This means that the rich and power are changing the government while the poor are not getting treated the same way. He wants to implement this change because he wants everyone to be able to have a voice in the government. The last reason is he is trying to stop the government from misusing the power so at least the people can make change and make the government better with the changes by the people. Having the government controlling them is bad this is because when the British were controlling the colonists their whole government was the king making new rules and wasn’t fair for the people and cannot force them to change the rules, which can cause problems long term has there is going to be problems has the people might rebel if the king or the queen is misusing their power.
